In Spain, it's the Three Wise Men - Los Reyes Magos - who are the most important during the winter holidays as, traditionally, they are the ones who bring gifts the night before the Three Kings Day (6 January). According to Christian tradition, the Three Kings, names Melchior, Balthazar and Gaspar, visited the newborn baby Jesus shortly after his birth and carried gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. The festivities officially start on 5 January, with parades in almost every town throughout the country to celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings. Dancers, musicians, puppeteers and, of course, the Three Kings make an appearance and children rejoice at their presence.
